biography

Blake Lewis is a 26-year-old talented singer/songwriter/musician/beatboxer. If we wrote everything Blake has accomplished for someone of such a young age, we could be here forever. Blake was born and raised in Bothell, Washington. Ever since he was five, he began singing and had an interest for music at a young age.

When Blake attended Kenmore Junior High, he started seriously singing in choir. The choir he was in had a great reputation, and it was a great start for Blake to begin his musical career. With this choir, Blake traveled to England.

When Blake graduated Inglemoor High School (Class of 1999), he went on to do what he loved to do---make and create music. Besides writing and winning beatboxing contests, he also writes music, opens for several bands, plays the guitar and piano, and does comedy and improvisation with his friends(which can be found on You Tube). He toured with the Seattle-local Kickshaw band for five years before the band broke up. He has opened for many musicians as well, such as Twista, Del the Funky, Jurassic 5, and much more.

Blake auditioned in Seattle, Washington, for American Idol. At first, he beat boxed, and Paula Abdul was instantly in love with Blake already. Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson were still hesitant. After hearing his singing, Jackson agreed that Blake was, in fact, talented. Abdul raved about how much she loved Blake, and Cowell said that he was good, but, "not as good as he thought." Boy, did Simon have something to learn. Simon's opinion of Blake changed, and after Blake performed Love Song by the Cure, Simon said that Blake was, "The best male singer in the competition".

While it is difficult to describe Blake's genre in music, it isn't difficult to describe how great it is. He is, indeed, one of the most original and different artists. The genre could be called alternative, hip hop, electronic, and even jazz, because of all the touches he adds. Occasionally, you will hear some beat boxing thrown in. On American Idol, Blake adds his own style to all songs, and is especially talented at making old songs sound new and current. He adds in a beat, some new instruments, and his voice, which all make him the most original contestant ever on the show.

So there you have it, the most talented contestant to ever set foot on the American Idol stage. He could be the most original artist out there, as we will expect much more from Blake. Please support Blake Lewis in making him the best selling American Idol runner up ever!!
